The Path of the Light

Tue Mar 4, 2008, 11:44 AM
I've been reading a lot of Star Wars books recently, and I've noticed that they seem to be a little one sided. The jedi are portrayed as weak and hopeless, while the sith are shown as the masters, the real side that should be followed, that people who don't are simply naive. Now, although many people seem to feel that the dark side is where they belong, I've always preferred the good and the light. After a fair amount of thought on it, I still think I'm right, so underneath is why I would be a jedi, not a sith, and why I walk the path of the light...

Darkness is eternal. It envelops everything, and the light is simply a momentary glitch in its constant being. It lives to be this, and when light intervenes, it waits, because that's what it does best. It never attacks, but skirts the edges, waiting for its time, doing what it can to destroy the light from the inside out. When a person moves over the dark side, they receive the power of its eternal existence, and the strength is much more than the light could ever bring. With darkness comes strength, with strength comes power, and with power comes control. But the dark side is merely shadows, and shadows deceive the reality.

Anyone that lives with the dark side does not care how they achieve their control, and will gladly destroy all those who appose them. Eventually, the dark will win, but there is a story about a man who followed the dark side, and achieved his aim. Through deception and brutality he received ultimate power, and had total control. Then he went insane. There was nothing more to do, and with this comes the realisation that through all the treachery, the end result leads to nothing more than emptiness, and the knowledge that all you have done to achieve this nothingness is destroy others. And this is the true meaning of the dark side, to be nothing, to be empty, to be eternally blank.

But humans are not blank. We do not want to be empty, and eternal. Life means nothing if it is not lived. The achievement of ultimate power leads to insanity, whereas men will die with honour in the knowledge that they helped others. It was once said that honour has no use in death, as the dead are no longer around to appreciate it. But honour is relevant to the people before they die, for the knowledge of the light is what allows them to die without pain and anguish. The light only ends when the darkness prevails, and it never can as long as people are happy. The jedi strive for peace, and sacrifice their lives to make millions of others happy in their own. Peace may be a lie, but the light is not, and as long as people keep fighting on its side it will never disappear.

Darkness cannot die, but happiness is a reality, so walk the path of the light and reap its rewards, or remain destined to destroy and receive nothing in return.
